Schach Therapy Mountain Bike Relay Event
Mount 7
10:00 – 16:00
The Golden Cycling Club invites you to a community engagement initiative that aims to celebrate resilience in the face of adversity. The Golden Cycling Club is pleased to announce that all proceeds of the event will go towards local mental health services served by the Golden Family Center.
We are excited to share with you:
Schach Therapy - June 1st, 2024
A mountain bike relay race or ride for the cause on Mount 7, followed by an evening event featuring a public speaker and a short film series.
The Race or Ride for the Cause
Teams of 2, 3, or 4, climbing and descending Mount 7. The climb starts at the Reflection Lake parking lot and takes the Schacher Trail to the launch site then descends the route of your choice.
Not interested in racing? No worries! Ride for the cause! Many have made climbing The Schacher a personal goal and this is the time to make it happen -- with friends and community by your side.
The Climb: The Schacher 15km
The Schacher trail was completed in 2018, providing a single track trail from town to the Mount 7 launch site. Local family man Sean Schacher was the inspiration for this trail, and it was the drive of local family man/good-guy-with-superhero-powers Jeremy Harris who made it happen. Both of these 2 local riders now ride along in spirit with you on this ride.
Teams can only switch riders out at specific locations; the road crossing at 5.5k, 10k, and the launch.
Leg #1 - 6.0km +538m - Bowle-Evan road - Woodlot ride trail - Schacher to just above the 5km on the Bowle-Evan road.
Leg #2 - 6.3k +500m - Schacher to 10k trail junction.
Leg #3 - 3km +306m - Schacher to launch
The Descent: Choose your adventure
From the launch site to the Reflection Lake parking lot. All Riders MUST pass through the checkpoint at 5k, the only location for a rider switch and finish on 5k to the finish at Reflection Lake parking lot.
No descending the Schacher, except the section from Summit connection to B52. (ex. if you are taking the summit down to summit connect to B52 to 5k)
It is required for teams to submit their descent route during event plate pickup.
We recommend carpooling to shuttle riders to their starting points and ideally having the ascenders drive the vehicles back down to Reflection Lake for the finish.
All teams must check in when all team members are back at the Reflection Lake Parking lot.
Unfortunately, there is no E-bike category this year.
To participate, individuals must be at least 12 years old or older.
Tickets are $30 per rider. All proceeds go to the Golden Family Center.
Donations are welcome. To donate to the Golden Family Center, click here.
Registration begins April 15th.
Start getting your teams together!

2024 GCC 30x30 Challenge
Golden
01-05-2024 01:00 – 31-05-2024 23:00
Join the GCC's 2024 version of the 30x30 challenge! Kick into gear this May by riding any bike for 30 minutes for 30 days.
Start your Psychosis, Golden 24 or Furious 5 training early... or reduce your carbon footprint by riding to school or work. This challenge is open to all riders, any age, any experience level, and whatever bike you want to ride.
HOW IT WORKS
Get your Golden Cycling Club Membership! You need to be a Golden Cycling Club member to participate.
Choose a bike to pedal for a minimum of 30 minutes a day, every day, for the month of May. Ride your mountain bike through Mountain Shadows, road bike to Nicholson, take your cruiser bike to the grocery store, or take a spin on the trainer — if it has pedals that make a wheel move, it counts! And if you miss ONE day, that’s ok because there are 31 days in May, you lucky duck.
The 30 minutes can be done all at once or in smaller amounts throughout the day, but the total for the day needs to add up to 30 minutes or more.
No need to register this year or "Buy Tickets", simply enter your name, date and ride of choice into the daily tracker here:https://forms.gle/tNtv4V9mXYoqHPb58
This event is based on the honour system – nobody will be checking your Strava, but you’ll know in your heart what’s true.

Learn to Ride is a youth mountain bike development program for kids Grades 1 through 7, ages 6 to 12, designed to teach the fundamentals of mountain bike trail riding in a safe, fun, and controlled environment. It is designed for all abilities and kids will be grouped according to their skill level. Learn to Ride starts on April 20th, and will consist of skill-based lessons once a week on Saturday mornings from 9:30 to 11:30 for 4 weeks.
Learn to Ride is $75 per child, which includes a Golden Cycling Club Junior membership and a custom Sombrio ride jersey. Registration is limited to 150 kids.
In order to ensure we have a safe and successful camp, we would like to provide you with some information that we would like you to discuss with your child. Please review the following details so that your son or daughter is ready to ride.
Rider registration – Please ensure you have completed and submitted the online registration and waiver forms for the camp, and also have completed the Golden Cycling Club membership forms by April 13th or your child will not be able to ride. There is no on the day registration This will ensure we have all the required information to group kids for maximum fun and ensure we have relevant info to deal with any medical concerns if they should arise.
Rider Bike Check – The Bike Check is meant to be a preventative inspection done to ensure your child’s bike is in good working order prior to the camp starting. If you are unsure about any aspect of your child’s bike please take to your local bike shop and have the mechanic have a look. Golden Cycling Club members are eligible for a 10% discount on parts and labour at local bike stores. It is the FULL responsibility of each rider/parent to ensure that their bicycle is properly maintained and safe. The instructors will perform a brief safety check prior to the first session at which time if your child’s bike is unsafe, they will not be allowed to ride until fixed. The riders will learn how to perform their own safety check and identify any problems in following sessions,
Session Start Date – The 2024 camp is scheduled to begin on April 20th at 9:30am at the Keith King soccer fields and run until 11:30 am. it will run for 4 Saturday mornings through to May 11th.

All riders must have a properly fitting helmet that is adjustable around the CROWN of the child's head (this applies to all helmets other than full face helmets). A hydration source is STRONGLY recommended
Rider Check In/Name Tags – At the start of EACH session, each rider will check in at a designated area where they will receive a coloured name tag and be assigned to their skill level group identified by a coloured bib worn by the instructors. All riders must sign out after each session, to allow us to ensure all riders have returned from the daily trail ride.
IMPORTANT: Once you've completed your registration, if you haven't already done so, you will receive an email asking you to activate your Golden Cycling Club account. Once you have completed this, visit the Membership Page of the Golden Cycling Club and select the 'Junior Learn to Ride Membership' and complete this process to sign the waiver.
